Hardware Testing: Bringing Hardware-in-the-Loop to Zephyr CI

Parthiban N

Linumiz

With more than 1,000 supported boards, no developer can test every configuration, and emulators alone miss silicon edge cases: changes that pass CI get reverted weeks later. This maintainers' forum session sets out to decide whether Zephyr wants hardware-in-the-loop testing in CI and, if so, how board tiers, lab hosting and result reporting on PRs should work.

Co-hosted with

  • DK Dan Kalowsky · Qualcomm · Lead organizer & moderator
What you'll learn
  • D1–D2: HIL in CI/CD, and reviving the hardware tier system
  • D3–D4: what each tier covers, and how tiers are identified in-tree
  • D5: where HIL boards are hosted
  • D6: scheduler framework (LabGrid, LAVA, agnostic or hybrid)

Wednesday 7 October

13:30–14:10

Talk Zephyr RTOS Zephyr Developer Summit

From Reset to main(): Porting Infineon TriCore AURIX to Zephyr

Parthiban N

Linumiz

Christoph Seitz

Infineon Technologies AG

Infineon's effort to add the TriCore architecture to Zephyr RTOS for the AURIX TC3x and TC4x automotive microcontrollers: from reset to the first thread, trap and interrupt handling, context switching through the Context Save Area, system timer integration, SoC and board support, QEMU-first development, and what it takes to upstream a brand-new architecture.

What you'll learn
  • Bootflow, linker script and kernel init on TriCore
  • CSA context switch, interrupts and traps vs. Cortex-M and RISC-V
  • qemu_tc3x / qemu_tc4x boards, merged upstream (PR #107516)
  • Upstreaming challenges: toolchain, CI and HAL dependencies

If AI Can Write Drivers, Why Do We Need Zephyr, and Should We Make Zephyr AI-Ready?

Parthiban N

Linumiz

Generative AI can now produce peripheral drivers, board support, device tree overlays, tests and whole application examples in seconds. So is Zephyr's value really in its drivers and APIs, or in standardization, portability, maintainability, testing, community and ecosystem? The panel looks at how AI is reshaping embedded development and what stays hard once code generation is routine.

On the panel with

  • AA Andrei Aldea · Texas Instruments · Moderator
  • KS Khasim Syed Mohammed · Texas Instruments · Moderator
  • BC Benjamin Cabé · Zephyr Project / Linux Foundation
  • JL Jimmy Lalande · Schneider Electric
  • LK Lenka Kosková Třísková · TU Liberec
  • PR Peder Rand · Texas Instruments
What you'll learn
  • Where Zephyr's value lies when code is cheap
  • Maintainability, testing and portability in the AI era
  • What "AI-ready" could mean for the Zephyr project

Multi-Display Pipelines on Allwinner: Upstream Kernel DRM to Mesa3D

Parthiban N

Linumiz

Moving Allwinner-based products from vendor BSP kernels to upstream Linux. Simultaneous multi-display across LVDS and MIPI with mainline DRM on the Allwinner A133 and A523: the display engine architecture, device tree topology for multiple active pipelines, the DRM/KMS changes needed, and how compositors like Weston behave in practice.

What you'll learn
  • 2× LVDS + 1× MIPI panels on Allwinner A133, all mainline
  • Device tree topology for multiple display pipelines
  • The DRM / KMS changes that make it work correctly
  • Weston multi-display, and the limits you hit in practice

Multiple Cores, One Zephyr: The Path to Cortex-M SMP in Zephyr

Sanjay Vallimanalan

Linumiz

Multi-core Cortex-M SoCs are everywhere, yet Zephyr supports only AMP on them. This talk shows how SMP, with one scheduler across all cores, uses the hardware better, with a proof of concept on the dual Cortex-M7 Infineon TRAVEO T2G (CYT4DN): bringing up secondary cores, unified timekeeping with per-core SysTick, the limits of timeout-driven scheduling, and a path to upstream-ready Cortex-M SMP.

What you'll learn
  • AMP vs SMP, and what SMP needs from hardware and arch port
  • Dual Cortex-M7 case study: six problems, six fixes
  • Live demo: one image, two cores
  • Limits today and the road to upstream

From Infineon silicon to your application

Automotive
powered by Zephyr RTOS

We bring Infineon AURIX (TriCore) and TRAVEO T2G into mainline Zephyr: arch ports, SoC and board support, drivers and graphics. Automotive protocols and applications build on top of that.

  • Community driven

Built in the open, reviewed by the Zephyr community.

  • Long-Term Support

Aligned with Zephyr LTS releases for products that ship for years.

  • Safety ready

Architecture and processes that fit automotive safety work.

  • Upstream first

Board, SoC and arch support lands in mainline, not a fork.
